First Aid & Emergency Plan

  • Coaches and parents should know what actions would be taken in the event of a serious accident or injury.
  • If the player cannot move a joint, do not move it for them. Let them move it on their own. If in doubt, keep the injured area in a stationary position and call an ambulance.
  • Please be aware of nut or other allergies of team members should your team have a snack list for the season.

For more detailed information, please refer to the 2012 Handbook for Coaches, Players and Parents!

About the Coaches

  • The coaches are volunteers who offer their time to organize your child's team. It may also be the first time that they are involved in coaching. They are looking for your help, not criticism.
  • When possible, your coach may contact you before game time, if the game is cancelled.  WMSA posts weather cancellations on our website and sends out email notifications by 4:30 daily.  Note: Games are usually cancelled due to thunder & lightning.  Unless there is a risk of damage to the field, games usually go ahead during most rain showers.  WMSA recommends all parents sign up for the Weather Update email to receive automatic notice of game cancellations.

Important Information to Share With Your Child's Coach:

  • Parents should ensure that the coach is aware of any special medical condition and what actions may be required.  Please note: WMSA is a recreational league and coaches are not responsible for children at the field. It is the parent's responsibility to have someone supervise their children at all times.
  • If puffers are used, please discuss with the coach appropriate use, to avoid overuse by players.
  • Food allergies should be communicated in private with the coach so that other parents are aware of food that is appropriate to bring for the team.

About the Referees

  • Please remember our referees are also young & learning the game. Mistakes will be made. Their decision is the one that counts and must be respected. Your encouragement will only help them develop.
  • If you have specific concerns about a referee, please speak with your coach who will pass on the information to the Division Convenor and in turn the Referee-in-Chief.
